This documentary about Alfred Hitchcock’s 1945 surrealist thriller Spellbound goes off script when its director receives some unexpected news.

Spellbound (1945) achieved quick and lasting notoriety by means of its dream sequences designed by the great Surrealist Salvador Dalí. Ironically, however, these moments are the least surreal portions of the film. Gunz will show that the movie is suffused with surrealist images and dialogue. Most notably, its love story is a prime example of Surrealist l’amour fou—mad love. Luis Buñuel would have giggled.
